David Kampf clears and contract can be terminated
Kampf was recently suspended by the team after he did not report back to the Marlies and the team has been reportedly looking at several different ways to cut ties with the veteran forward.

What Kampf's waiver clearance means for his future options

This season, Kampf was signed for $2.4 million this season, but with the contract termination process underway, he will forfeit the remaining salary.
He can elect to sign elsewhere immediately although there is no confirmation about a pending move.
During his time in Toronto, Kampf skated in 301 games with 85 points (31 goals, 54 assists) a plus-13 rating and won 51.7% of his face-offs over that span; he signed a four-year, $9.6-million contract in 2023.
The situation with Kampf started this past offseason when Toronto brought in several new players, which moved Kampf out of the lineup. He was waived earlier in the season and assigned to the American Hockey League.

Why his contract and recent absence shaped this outcome

He then stepped away from the team and did not return to the Marlies, which led the Leafs to suspend him while determining next steps.
With today's news that Kampf has cleared waivers, the final step is the formal termination of his contract.
Kampf signed a two-year entry level deal with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017, and spent four seasons there. He registered 58 points in 235 games (17 goals, 41 assists).
