The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed Brandon Carlo on injured reserve as he deals with an injury and called up forward Jacob Quillan in response.
So on Monday morning, the Toronto Maple Leafs made a couple of roster moves as they continue to deal with those injuries.
The team announced they have placed Brandon Carlo on the IR retroactive to Nov. 13, and in response have brought up forward Jacob Quillan to help fill the lineup.
Maple Leafs D Brandon Carlo has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to November 13, 2025.
F Jacob Quillan has been recalled from the Toronto Marlies (AHL).
In 18 games this season, Carlo has two assists, 34 blocks, 12 hits, and a plus-2 rating.
Quillan, 23, has been on a tear this season for the Marlies, registering 14 points in 14 games and is projected to score 72 points this season; a very strong start for the former NCAA standout.
What Brandon Carlo's IR stint means for the Leafs' blue line
It's not known when Carlo is going to be back, though he is going to miss some time and may be eligible to return at some point next week if his recovery goes well and it's nothing serious.
Right now that means the team is going to run with both
Dakota Mermis and
Philippe Myers as the team is already without Chris Tanev, and now Carlo's injury brings them together again in the lineup.
Carlo hasn't been as solid as fans had hoped although compared to Myers and Mermis is a much more reliable defender, and his absence is still going to hurt the team even if he hasn't been perfect this year.
Why Jacob Quillan was the forward the Leafs chose to call up
But in placing Carlo on IR, the team also recalled Jacob Quillan who has been on a roll early on for the Toronto Marlies.
The 23-year-old was signed out of Quinnipiac University in 2024 and helped the team win their first NCAA Championship in 2023 while also receiving the Most Outstanding Player Award.
As previously stated, he has 14 points in 14 games (2 goals, 12 assists) while also providing above average defense.
There's no indication as to where Quillan lines up, however with the current health of the team, he could slide in if another player goes down.
He could also come in for a player like Sammy Blais or
Calle Jarnkrok on the fourth-line if Craig Berube wants to add a bit more energy and use Quillan's AHL hot streak to spark some offense.
Right now the bottom-six needs a spark, and bringing up one of your top scorers in addition to a very respectable defender should not only help that, but also help alleviate the amount of goals being scored on them.
