Toronto Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) is the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs. MLSE is also owned by Rogers Communications (37.5%), Bell Canada Enterprises Inc. (37.5%), and Kilmer Sports (25%). They are appointing a new President and CEO.

Previous management and new management coming in

Chief Financial Officer, Cynthia Devine, has been the CEO in an Interim capacity over the last two years. She took on the additional duties after Michael Friisdahl stepped down from the position in January of 2022.

It is unknown what Devine's role will be following this announcement but she will likely go back to the CFO-only role.

According to TSN, the 60-year-old Keith Pelley, a former executive at Bell and Rogers, is assuming the post of President and CEO. While Pelley was president of Rogers Media, he assisted the organization in obtaining the national broadcasting rights to the Canadian NHL for a record-breaking $5.2 billion (CAD) over a 12-year period.

Prior to that, he was the president of the Toronto Argonauts and the head of the Bell-Rogers Media Consortium, which was in charge of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010. Pelley, most recently served as the PGA European Tour's CEO.

What this means for the future of the Toronto Maple Leafs

It is unknown what this new individual would have on Maple Leafs President and Alternate Governor Brendan Shanahan. He is currently under contract until 2025. Shanahan directly reported to the MLSE board under Devine, at least by all reports. It is not clear what will change with the Maple Leafs front office with Pelley in change.
