Wayne Simmonds is still available on the market, and if he doesn't sign a contract before the season starts, it might be the end of the road for him.

Simmonds at Crossroads

Simmonds has had an impressive career in the NHL, scoring 526 points in 1,037 games, which is considerable for a player known to be aggressive and physical on the ice.

But now, it's safe to say that at 35 years old, he doesn't have the same speed and can't contribute as much as he did in his early years.

However, he could still be a valuable addition to a team looking for grit at a cheap price. We could easily see him signing with the Flyers, the Coyotes, the Sharks, or even the Bruins. Even if Boston isn't struggling as much as the others listed, they are still hampered by the salary cap, and he could turn out to be a great option to complete their bottom-six, or even to be on standby in case of injuries.

Back in Toronto?

The Maple Leafs could also be interested in re-signing him. At this point, he should accept a two-way contract to help the Marlies as well.

Even if he only played 18 NHL games last season, and with all the interesting additions Brad Treliving made in the off-season, he would be a great fit in Toronto and could split his time between the Leafs and the Marlies.

Do you think the Leafs should sign Simmonds?

As seen on Fansided - 5 players the Philadelphia Flyers could sign to a PTO
