Toronto Maple Leafs and Justin Holl contract talks reportedly heating up
According to Ryan Clark of ESPN, the Leafs are expected to still be active in talks for D Justin Holl, who is set to become a free-agent. According to Clark, Holl is still a candidate to return to Toronto.
Holl, 31, played in 80 Games with the Leafs this season, having 2 Goals and 18 Points. Holl had an assist in 8 playoff games for Toronto.
Holl has been the target of criticism by Leafs fans for Head Coach Sheldon Keefe's heavy playing of the Defenseman, who fans vocally were critical of citing players with better offensive stats getting less minutes, as well as perceived inconsistencies in Holl's game, however, Holl was one of Toronto's top Defensive Defensemen last season.
There's no knowledge of what a deal may be for Holl, but it's likely that the RHD will be of interest to a few teams.
Holl was signed to a three-year, $6M contract in 2020, with a $2M AAV. Signed under former GM Kyle Dubas, it's not known the value Holl has with new GM Brad Treliving, but likely, a team will be willing to have a veteran defenseman like Holl on a short-term deal.
