Kailer Yamamoto has become available to the Maple Leafs for free
The Detroit Red Wings have officially placed Kailer Yamamoto on waivers in order to buy him out.
"Kailer Yamamoto will be bought out by the Red Wings. Detroit strongly considered keeping him but couldn't make moves to make it work. Given tight cap, Yamamoto is a good young player hitting the market."
Kailer Yamamoto in Toronto?
Last season, Yamamoto played only 58 games and managed to score 25 points with the Oilers. Of course, playing in the same team as McDavid and Draisaitl, his ice-time took a hit. In another team, he could have a bigger role and achieve his full potential.
That's why a lot of teams could be interested. The team claiming him would also have to take the remaining year of his contract, with a $3.1M AAV.
That may be a lot for Toronto, who are dealing with a tight cap situation.
Also, the 24 year-old could be looking for a team where he could have a bigger role than in Toronto, where he'd probably in the bottom-six.
