MOCK TRADE: Maple Leafs Acquire Top Veteran Defenseman

Could a trade closer to home, and to a Canadiens rival, be in the cards?

In this mock trade, the Montreal Canadiens send the recently-acquired Petry to the Toronto Maple Leafs, for a decent return.

The Maple Leafs would of course acquire Petry, at 50% salary retained (following 25% of his salary already being retained by Pittsburgh), which would make him a $2.343M player. While past his prime, he provides exceptional value at that figure.

The Canadiens would acquire a third round pick (acquired from NYI for Pierre Engvall), and a fifth round pick. They would equally acquire Calle Jarnkrok for salary reasons, and the rights to prospect Semyon Der-Arguchintsev, who recently left the Leafs for Europe.

It isn't unheard of for these two rivals to deal with each other. Could they do it again?
