The NHL regular season is almost here. Until then we finally have preseason hockey back across the league. Today the Toronto Maple Leafs play their first game. This morning they announced their expected lineup.

Maple Leafs Announce Lineup For Their First Game

The NHL preseason is all about getting guys ready for the regular season and seeing who will make the NHL roster. Today the Maple Leafs are going to satisfy both of these with a mix of veterans and younger players.

Potential lines for today's preseason game based on the roster:

Domi-Nylander-Lafferty
Knies-Minten-Ellis
Hirvonen-Gambrell-Steeves
Clifford-Slavin-Shaw
Suthers

Rielly-Liljegren
Lagesson-Timmins
Lajoie-Villeneuve
Miller

Petruzzelli
Hildeby

We will get our first look at Max Domi in a Maple Leafs uniform today. The rest of the forwards are pretty familiar names in the Maple Leafs organization. Top prospects Fraser Minten, Matthew Knies, and Roni Hirvonen all draw into the lineup.

On defense, the most interesting thing is that Timothy Liljegren is getting an opportunity to play with Morgan Rielly. In the past Liljegren has struggled to find playing time in Toronto this pairing could signal that changing in the future. Beyond that promising young players like William Villeneuve and Connor Timmins will get their shot.

In the net veteran Keith Petruzzelli looks to be getting the start ahead of Dennis Hildeby the Maple Leafs 22-year-old prospect.

It will be interesting to see who steps up in tonight's game with such a young roster. The biggest thing for the Maple Leafs will be coming out of the game with no injuries.
