Auston Matthews was against new technology when the league was first trying to implement it. Back when the NHL was trying to implement puck-tracking technology, a few players were against this.

Auston Matthews was one of these players and his reasoning was how he felt that changing the weight of the puck minutely would affect the chances he would get.

In last night's game 5 loss, the Leafs had a controversial no-goal.

There are multiple camera angles showing that the puck crossed the line yet there was still no goal.

Another camera angle:

While the league's explanation goes into a completely different rule, it begs the question of if having a chip in the puck would change things.

If the league put a chip in the puck and were able to have the goal horn sound automatically when the puck crosses the line completely then the Leafs would likely be preparing for game 6 right now.

At the end of the day, Matthews may have felt he would not get as many opportunities himself but it is clear if the league were advanced as they could be, the Leafs would be still fighting for the cup.
