The Edmonton Oilers just embarrassed the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs by setting this NHL record, cementing them as one of the best Canadian teams to be rostered.

Edmonton Oilers Set Canadian NHL Win Streak Record

When you think of historic Canadian NHL franchises, the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs are likely to be the first you think of, being part of the Original Six. However, despite their storied past, the Edmonton Oilers have just embarrassed them by setting the new record for the longest win streak by a Canadian NHL team.

With their win last night against the Calgary Flames, the Oilers set the NHL record at 13 straight wins for a Canadian NHL team.

"Oilers win 13th in a row and become first team from the Western Conference and first Canadian team to win 13.

Set franchise record with 11th consecutive game allowing two or fewer goals.

Skinner ties franchise record for goalie with 10 straight wins.

EDM is 21-3 in last 24."

The Oilers have effectively fought their way out of the terrible start they had this season. They are 21-3 in their last 24 games, which is an incredible stat in itself, and shows just how good this Oilers team is when they play well together.

Zach Hyman Responds to Oilers Setting NHL Record

Zach Hyman responded after the game to the Oilers setting this new NHL record, pointing out how historic this was for the organization and just when it started to sink in how big of a deal this could be.

"When we did the (franchise record) 10-game streak we eclipsed the Oilers, the 80s teams, now it's the old Montreal team," Edmonton forward Zach Hyman said. "When you're in the moment you just go out there and play, but I'm sure it'll be something cool to look back on [how] we now hold this streak for a Canadian team. We want to keep winning, so we'll see where it goes."

The Oilers of course want to keep building on this success, but its clear they have come a long way since firing their head coach in the beginning of the season.
