Joe Veleno of the Detroit Red Wings is the talk of hockey social media circles today, and not for anything even remotely good. The forward, who is playing for Team Canada at the IIHF World Championships, used his skate to literally stomp on the leg of New Jersey's Nino Niederreiter, who is with Team Switzerland. To make matters worse, there was no call on Veleno.

Niederreiter

Niederreiter's team would go on to win 3-2, but the focus was, of course, on the stomp post game. Niederreiter told reporters that, as far as he's concerned, Veleno was out to hurt him.

"It does not belong to our sport. You can't do it. It's too dangerous, blades are extremely sharp. He try to go in the battle to hurt me and almost going to brake my ankle. I'm very curious, what IIHF do about it. I hope they do better job." Nino Niederreiter -

Kane Chimes In

The incident caught the attention of Evander Kane of the Edmonton Oilers, who called it embarrassing and disgusting. Kane went on the say that things like this are why fighting should never be taken out of hockey.
