NHL Insider Identifies Favorite Candidate to Assume Role as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs organization shook the NHL when they announced yesterday that they had parted ways with Kyle Dubas.
But the Leafs will have to move on fast. In the coming months, there's a lot of work to be done.
In addition to the draft, which is just over a month away, there are contract negotiations to be done, and of course, the free agency on July 1st.
This leaves a short time for the Leafs to find Dubas' replacement. There are a few options, but an NHL insider revealed the top contender for the job.

According to Chris Johnston, Brad Treliving, the former GM in Calgary, would be an ideal candidate.
Let it be said here that Brad Treliving is now the favorite to replace him as Leafs GM because there are so few obvious options who meet Shanahan's requirement that «having an experienced general manager would be an attractive quality.»
The only problem is that Treliving's contract in Calgary doesn't expire until June 30th, and the Flames previously stated that they wouldn't let him interview for another job before the end of his professional association with Calgary.
However, they seem to have changed their minds:
"Hearing Flames have reconsidered their approach with former GM Brad Treliving, after our report last week, and will not get in the way if any future employment opportunity arises before his contract expires on June 30" - Frank Seravalli
If Shanahan wants someone with experience to fill Dubas' shoes, there aren't a lot of candidates. Treliving made some terrible moves last summer, but he has the experience. Who can forget the failure of the Tkachuk-Huberdeau trade?
Let's hope that if he comes to Toronto, he'll have learned from his past mistakes.
