Insight into the Ongoing Conflict Between Flames' Star Player and Darryl Sutter Revealed
The Calgary Flames took a massive nose dive last year after an incredible 2021-22 campaign, and it appears that Head Coach Darryl Sutter was the biggest reason for this.
Clashing with the players
In 2023, the old-school style of hockey coaching rarely works, as players these days like to show off their skills and be more creative offensively, but under Sutter, many Flames players have complained how limited that became.
While it was overcome when Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk were in town, after their departure, everything became a nightmare, with one player in particular voicing his displeasure.
Captain Backlund?
One main reason why the disconnect was there was due to a lack of captaincy, which veteran Mikael Backlund believes he deserved, and as a result, he would go on massive tirades against Sutter in the locker room.
According to D-man Mackenzie Weegar, those would include several profanities, but now that he is gone from the organization, the belief is there that they can build this into a team that's full of offensive chemistry and good vibes like the 2021-22 team became renowned for.
