It was announced last night that Alex Meruelo, the owner of the Arizona Coyotes, has proposed a billion-dollar entertainment district in Reno, Nevada.
Meruelo and his team made it clear that the district would not be the home of the Coyotes but it is shocking similar to the failed Tempe entertainment district proposal.
The district would be built for the Univeristy of Nevada's basketball program but it could host some hockey. The following was said regarding the Coyotes and the district:
At this point... The Coyotes could potentially move here if all else fails in Arizona and they are unable to find a new spot.
While there is nothing currently, it would not be surprising at all if they do make it a place where they play temporarily in 2026-27. The confirmation that they will be looking to host preseason tournaments in Reno is also intriguing considering that to make a basketball arena compatible with a hockey arena would require expensive equipment.
While there is nothing official just yet, there is certainly a possibility that the Coyotes could eventually move out of Arizona and into Reno before relocating elsewhere permanently.
