Cam Strickland Reveals His Thoughts on Zegras' Future in Anaheim
On his podcast the Cam & Strick Podcast, Andy Strickland discussed Trevor Zegras' future with the Ducks amid the rumoured rocky relationship that is developing between Zegras and Management.
"I said this a long time ago, He's not Pat Verbeek's type of player. I don't know if he is in their long-term plans" Strickland on Trevor Zegras
This would help to explain the rumours that Zegras and Management are not seeing eye to eye on his potential contract extension, which is causing some riff between the two parties.
Zegras Set to Become Free Agent After This Season
This entire situation has been spurred by Zegras' expiring contract and extension talks between Zegras and the Ducks. It has been reported that the Ducks have offered Zegras a meagre $3 million AAV extension, which is low for someone who is already the face of the Duck's franchise. Andy Strickland believes these reports are accurate.
I was talking to someone close to him. I think the speculation and the reports are accurate, that he has been offered something in the 3 to 4 million dollar range.
Strickland believes that Zegras is worth more due not only to his play putting up over 60 points the last few years but also his stature in the league.
If I am Trevor Zegras and all of a sudden the NHL has put me on this pedestal, they invite me out to the All-Star Game, they have me participate in the skills competition, I am one of the most popular names in the league, kids all over the league are wearing my jersey everywhere, why would I settle and take less than what I think I am worth, and what other players are getting. Trade me.
We will have to see whether or not the Ducks have Zegras in their long-term plans, as his contract gets closer to expiring. Zegras is only worth what the market is willing to pay, however, it's almost assuredly going to be more than what he is currently being offered.
