Radko Gudas speaks on the hit that ended Sidney Crosby’s Olympic night
Czechia defenseman Radko Gudas spoke on the hit that took Sidney Crosby out of Canada's lineup and potentially the rest of the 2026 Olympics.
Crosby's status remains unknown as the Canadians progressed to the semifinals after defeating the Czechs 4-3, with Crosby's availability in doubt to play against Finland in the next round.
Radko Gudas, who plays his club hockey in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks, spoke on the hit that took Crosby out in the second period, keeping him from continuing in Canada's eventual win.
Gudas said after the game that he did not intend to injure Crosby, that he was attempting to finish a hit before an awkward tangling with Crosby, adding that he hoped the Canadian captain was alright.
While Gudas was finishing a check it was the fact that Crosby was pretty much already on the ice before he flattened him that may be causing some concerns.
Sidney Crosby's status awaits ahead of pivotal semifinals vs. Finland
Canada waits to see if they will have their captain in the semifinals. Canadian head coach Jon Cooper did not have available information over whether Crosby would be able to resume in the tournament, despite personal optimism Crosby could continue.
Crosby is one of only two members of the Canadian squad who won gold for the Canadians in 2010 and 2014, with Crosby's 'golden goal' being one of the great goals of both the Olympics and in hockey history.
Gudas, who expressed there was no intent to cause any injury to Crosby as previously mentioned, spoke post-game to Jon Cooper -- who previously coached Gudas as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Crosby underwent an MRI after the game, with the results expected to be revealed for tomorrow. Cooper is expected to provide an update but Crosby's status for the semifinals against Finland, and in the final medal game, still remains up in the air.
A status on Crosby's health may not be known until Friday when Canada plays, unclear if Crosby has played what is likely his final Olympic games.
