The Toronto Maple Leafs have a nice pool of prospects in their ranks, with the focus right now being on Fraser Mintent and Easton Cowan after making Team Canada's World Junior Team. However, they have another prospect who is deserving of some praise this year as well.
Alex Steeves has played the last 3 seasons with the Toronto Marlies and is currently on a franchise-best 15-game point streak with the club. He's got 23 points in 18 games for the Marlies, yet has not been called up to play with the Leafs, being passed over for Bobby McMann.
The Toronto Maple Leafs desperately need a plan to capitalize on Steeves' talent. Steeves is on the last year of his entry-level deal, and with young players already in Knies, Robertson, McMann, Minten, and Cowan in the ranks, the Leafs don't want to see Steeves walk for free. With his production this year, its clear he could get a real opportunity elsewhere.
The Leafs are eyeing a few potential trades this season, if they chose not to call Steeves up, he could make for an excellent option for a potential trade.
