On November 6, 2023, the Hurricanes were just having another routine hockey day when a major breaking news story hit about the team's starting goaltender Freddie Andersen.

Andersen was later put on IR and determined to be out an indefinite amount of time. Everyone's initial thought was that this could be an "all season" issue, or perhaps a career-ending one.

Great news for Freddie Andersen and the Hurricanes

Thankfully, the medical condition where he needed blood thinners seems to have been corrected much sooner than anyone anticipated. On Sunday, before Carolina's match up against the Washington Capitals, it was announced that Andersen was on the road to recovery.

Andersen would be back on the ice practising in the near future.

When will Andersen return and Waddell's remarks

Walt Ruff, the editorial content producer and team reporter for the Hurricane's had a quick chat with Carolina GM Don Waddell.

Waddell stated that:

"[Andersen] will start hitting the ice more in the next 7-10 days."

Waddell also acknowledged that the Hurricanes have been in the market for a goalie recently, but they will not go out of the way to make a change as they are happy in net.

"We're willing to do something, but we really believe in Freddie and Kochetkov long-term... If we can upgrade the position, we have to continue to look at it."

In six games this season, Andersen has a 4-1-0 record with a 2.87 GAA and a 0.894 save percentage (sv%). He has a 56-25-4 record in his first two seasons with Carolina, along with a 2.29 GAA and a 0.915 sv%.
