Jordin Tootoo is becoming a well-renowned author in his retirement from the NHL, as he is onto his second book since hanging up his skates. His newest book shines some light on how the Chicago Blackhawks skirted the rules to place him on LTIR during his time with the club.
Tootoo, not wanting to play for Chicago's AHL affiliate for personal reasons, went to then-GM Stan Bowman to request he be placed on LTIR.
This is obviously against, the rules, as Tootoo states that all he had to do was get an MRI done, and then the team placed him on LTIR and didn't talk to him the rest of the year.
The story in the book has gone viral on social media, and its no question the League has seen what went down. The remaining question is now what they will do about it if anything. Tootoo seemed to have confirmed what everyone already presumed was going on with LTIR and players who don't want to be sent down to the minors. Now, we will see if Bettman decides to take action.
