Huge news has been reported that San Jose Sharks top defenceman Erik Karlsson has requested a trade from the team, but his request is unlike most.
A Unique Request
Karlsson has let it be known that he is not spreading a demanding message across with this ask by specifically stating that he is not giving the team a certain timeline to trade him. His goal is to be moved to a Stanley Cup contending team so that he has possibly one last chance to win a title before he retires.
Hard Task To Complete
Although Karlsson has made it clear that he wants out, it may not be that simple to grant him that wish.
He has a cap hit of an absurd $11.5 million over the next four seasons which creates a pretty sizable financial problem for the Sharks to find a trade partner. Karlsson also has a no-move clause on this contract, so the options of trade suitors are eliminated down even more because of the amount of power he has within himself with the deal.
As this offseason begins to develop very quickly, we will see where the two time Norris Trophy winner will end up come October.
