Connor Hellebuyck posted a lengthy farewell to Winnipeg on social media that showed an immense level of gratitude for his time with the Jets.
On Tuesday morning, Connor Hellebuyck wanted to make good with the Winnipeg fanbase after his trade to the New Jersey Devils and the prior holdout that led to his departure.
Connor Hellebuyck pens a lengthy tribute to his time in Winnipeg
He didn't stop short of thanking the fans for their passion, dedication, and he understands the fans were angry and let down with his trade request earlier this year:
"When I think about my years in Winnipeg, I'll always be grateful for the life my family and I built there and for the people who became such an important part of it. It's where I grew as a player and where we started our family.
I know my decision to request a trade was disappointing and frustrating for many people, especially those who supported me throughout my career. I understand those feelings, and I want everyone to know it was an extremely difficult decision.
There were several considerations that went into my decision, including some very challenging circumstances involving my family. After a lot of thought and discussion, we ultimately felt that making a change was the best thing for our family.
Hellebuyck then took the time to thank Chairman Mark Chipman, GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and the team for everything they did for him over his 11 years with the club:
I'm sincerely grateful to Mark Chipman, Kevin Cheveldayoff and the entire Jets organization for the opportunity they gave me and the trust they showed in me over the years.
To my teammates, coaches, trainers, equipment staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for your friendships, support and memories that I will always carry with me.
Hellebuyck can't thank the fans enough despite frustrating end in Winnipeg
He finished off with a quick thank you to the fans yet again, and wants to see them be just as dedicated and passionate as they were when he was in town:
To the great Jets fans who supported me and my family, thank you. I'll never forget the pride I felt representing Winnipeg, and I wish the Jets and the entire community nothing but the best.
For the Jets' franchise leader in games played, wins, save perrcentage and GAA, clearly there was a desire to win and despite wanting to do so in Winnipeg, felt that the team wouldn't accomplish those goals before he retires.
Obviously, the decision for Hellebuyck and his family led them to finding their way to New Jersey but it did not stop him whatsoever for taking a step back and realizing that without Winnipeg and their dedicated and loyal fans - he may never have even gotten that chance in the first place.
