After the tragedy of Adam Johnson, many leagues have begun talking about mandating neck protectors to ensure that something like this never happens again.

Another Two Teams Starting To Mandate Neck Protectors

It was just announced today that at least two more teams have started mandating neck protectors from this point forward.

«I know of at least three that have started the process of implementing optional neck protection for their teams. That being a Pittsburgh Penguins, who once employed Adam Johnson, the Washington Capitals and the Carolina Hurricanes. All three of those teams have ordered equipment and are going to have their players test it out and practice and go from there.» - Chris Johnston

The Pittsburgh Penguins have already mandated neck guards for their AHL and ECHL affiliate squads and it appears other teams will be following suit.

Neck Guard Policy and The Fans

The fans of the league have had a more aggressive response than many would have expected.

Many people claim that it just won't do enough to protect from the skate blade.

Even if it is small on the neck like some claim, the added layer of protection should seem like a bonus.

Now many professional players might have not worn these since they were 17 but it would not take that long to become acquainted with them.
