PRO: The Habs need the center depth
Kotkaniemi is a perfect 3rd line center but is that what the Habs are looking for? In my opinion they need a 1st line center and paying 6.1M$ for Kotkaniemi is too much.
CON: Kotkaniemi hasn't delivered on his potential at all
Inconsistency has been Kotkaniemi issue. Some days he shows up, some days he doesn't.
PRO: Kotkaniemi is young enough to improve
Jesperi is still young. He had a great performance last Stanley cup playoffs. But the Habs are ready to win now! They can clearly use that 6.1M$ to get a 1st line centre they have been waiting for. Once inconsistent, always inconsistent.
CON: Kotkaniemi isn't worth $6.1 million, even for one season
6.1M$ is a lot of money, even for Kotkaniemi.
CON: The draft-pick compensation is worth more than Kotkaniemi
This for me is worth not matching the offer sheet. Getting a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder in return. Are you kidding me? That is an amazing return.
In my opinion, the cons of matching the offer sheet outweigh the pros.
