Philadelphia Flyers Superstar's Career May Be Over
Philadelphia Flyers superstar Cam Atkinson's career appears to be over.
After it was released that Atkinson suffered a serious neck injury that required surgery, GM Chuck Fletcher said this:
When he spoke with this last doctor, I think the doctor kind of laid it out that, you might be able to come back and play if you continue to rehab. But you've got to look at the bigger picture here, in terms of nerve irritation in your arm.
While the tone of this quote seems optimistic, whenever a GM is this direct with the bigger picture, it's easy to think more realistically.
If this is it for Atkinson, it will be the end of a wonderful career. There's a good chance his number will be raised to the rafters at Columbus' Nationwide Arena, and he will be remembered as one of the best Columbus Blue Jackets in this generation.
His time in Philadelphia was short, but in the one season he played he was an incredibly important piece of the team.
We wish the best to Atkinson in his recovery from surgery.
