MAJOR: NHL Set to Welcome New Teams in the Coming Years
In major news, this NHL insider has just revealed that we could potentially see an expansion coming in the next few years.
Allan Walsh Reveals the Potential Timeline For NHL Expansion
Gary Bettman has been keeping his expansion cards close to his chest recently, with it well-known around the league that the NHL has been actively looking to expand. Bettman, however, has yet to commit to a timeline for expansion.
Now, NHL Agent Allan Walsh has revealed that the NHL will likely expand within the next two years, due to how the CBA is structured and why the owners are likely in favour of expanding sooner rather than later.
There are $2 Billion reasons why NHL expansion is happening soon. Under current CBA, the players receive no share of any expansion money, the entire amount is distributed between NHL owners.
With the NHL's revenues doing well, it's Walsh's guess that the NHL would rather add another team than share that money with the players. In his guess, this will happen within the next 2 years.
Quebec City Among Frontrunners for Potential NHL Expansion
Among the many frontrunners for a potential NHL expansion team is Quebec City. The Government of Quebec has been doing everything in its power to try and bring another NHL team to the Province, even giving the LA Kings a massive subsidy to bring part of their training camp here next year.
The Quebec government is offering the L.A. Kings $5M for them to spend a week of their training camp in Quebec City in October of 2024.
As much as I would love to see the Nordiques come back, is this really the best use of tax payer dollars and will it even make the NHL budge?
With so many cities vying for an NHL team, only time will tell who will win the eventual bid. Hopefully, however, that time is sooner rather than later.
