There was talk that Drouin's mental health needed a vacation from all of the pressure he had been carrying in Montreal. Drouin hasn't played since a game against the Edmonton Oilers on April 21st. He was seen conversing with team trainers during warm-ups for the next game and did not return to compete. He subsequently missed the next three games for Montreal due to a "non-COVID ailment." He spent the entire time alone in his hotel room, according to reports, and is now dealing with his predicament away from the Canadiens, who support him and respect his privacy.
However, it was revealed on Thursday that Drouin has been in contact with his teammates since the start of the playoff. Drouin's status was not disclosed by Habs head coach Dominique Ducharme, but he did say the team was thinking about him and that he was still a member of the Canadiens' family.
We can only assume that Drouin's words of support have fueled the team's motivation since the playoffs began. This might give the Habs an extra boost in the locker room.
Drouin has two goals and 21 assists in 44 games this season. He was asked how he felt about his lack of goals this year by a reporter during the regular season, and he replied with frustration that there was another crucial column on his stat sheet, pointing out his 21 assists.
It's wonderful to hear that Drouin is following his teammates, encouraging them, and being involved in the game in his own way.
