When Johnny Gaudreau played his first game at UBS Arena as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets, he was booed tirelessly.
This is because Islanders fans felt betrayed by Gaudreau, as they believed he had chosen not to sign with the team despite interest on both ends.
However, Gaudreau set the story straight after - and it makes the Islanders front office look pretty bad!
In an interview, Gaudreau said this:
I was talking to my coach after the third shift, and I was like, 'I don't get it,"" Gaudreau said. "I didn't talk to [the Islanders] once throughout the whole free agency.
So — not only did GM Lou Lamoriello not find a way to sign perfect-fit Nazem Kadri, but he also failed to even try to sign hometown hero Johnny Gaudreau.
Embarrassing situation all around!
