Bill Guerin sent shockwaves through the NHL when he signed 2019 1st rounder Matt Boldy to a massive seven-year $49-million contract.

Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed forward Matt Boldy to a seven-year, $49 million contract ($7 million average annual value) that goes through the 2029-30 season.

It was truly unexpected by fans, who were expecting a short-term bridge deal. Minnesota is essentially in cap-hell, with the buyouts of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter still in full effect.
While in principle it looks like a great deal, with Boldy's ceiling being of a great top-six player, who can put up nearly a point per game, some fans are seriously doubtful.
While some fans question the move, most sensical hockey fans can see the obvious upside it brings. Unless things go seriously wrong, this is an absolute win for Bill Guerin and the Minnesota Wild.
