Today, during the Columbus Blue Jackets' season-ending departure interviews with the media, Elvis Merzlikins revealed that the Blue Jackets' tradition of firing a cannon following a goal was tough to sustain following Matiss Kivlenieks' untimely death.

Elvis Merzlikins opened up about how the Cannon caused emotional distress early on in the season given Matiss Kivlenieks and fireworks. He said he'd never heard his heart beating alive like that. He also admitted to closing his eyes when he knew sound of Cannon was coming.

«I'm going to be honest. The next three or four games when I heard the cannon, even when we scored goals, I was always closing my eyes and getting myself ready. I think that's just the trauma, but it went away.»
