Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill has been fired

The move is not surprising given the questions surrounding Blashill's time as Red Wings coach since he replaced Mike Babcock in 2015.
Despite a good start to the season, the Red Wings went 9-18-4 in their final 31 games, including some tough losses. Fans and management may have felt the same way about the Red Wings' late-season losses to the Pittsburgh Penguins (11-2) and the Arizona Coyotes (9-2).
Blashill did not inherit an easy situation and had little to work with due to dubious decisions made by general manager Ken Holland previous to his departure from the Red Wings. Blashill inherited a team in decline and faced an uphill struggle every season as head coach of the Red Wings.
His 537 games as Red Wings head coach will be the seventh most in franchise history.
