Despite the expected absence of captain Shea Weber from the Habs, there are no plans to replace him in the dressing room at this time. According to head coach Dominique Ducharme, there will be a committee of players who will take over the responsibilities of #6 this season, with players like Brendan Gallagher, Jeff Petry and Carey Price in mind.

At the end of the last playoffs, the Montreal organization mentioned that Weber would miss the entirety of the upcoming season due to injuries to a thumb, foot and hip that have not been 100% healed for some time now. Despite this, Weber would still be very present with his teammates and would check in with everyone regularly during the offseason.
"THERE IS NO ONE PERSON WHO IS GOING TO TAKE SHEA'S PLACE. EACH INDIVIDUAL IS GOING TO TAKE A LITTLE BIT MORE SPACE" DOMINIQUE DUCHARME
What is certain is that the Habs would like to keep him around the team to motivate the troops and give Weber an important voice in the locker room. They don't want to name another captain to replace him, but they want to give more room to everyone on the team.
Let's not forget that Phillip Danault and Corey Perry were also important in the locker room and that they also left. That's why the young players will have to take more on their shoulders to help the Habs.
