David Pastrnak turned down a MONSTER offer from the Bruins and we now know how much he wants
David Pastrnak has entered the final year of his contract with the Bruins. He will be a free agent at the end of the season. Rumours about his new contract are starting to circulate.
ESPN reporter John Buccigross believes the Bruins would have based their offer on Johnny Gaudreau's contract and offered him about $10 million a year, for eight years.
However, the forward reportedly refused. He's hoping for more than that, and understandably so, as Pastrnak is headed for a 120-point season, including more than 60 goals.
Buccigross believes the centre would be looking for more of an eight-year contract at $12.5 million a year. He would then become one of the highest paid players in the league. The journalist does not see how the forward could be paid less than Artemi Panarin, who receives a salary of 11.642 million each season.
My guess is the Bruins have offered the Gaudreau contract; 9.75 x 8. Maybe they went to 10 x 8 to surpass it. Maybe now they are hoping for 11. I could see Pasta camp wanting 12.5 x 8. That's 100 million. Can't imagine 🍝 signing for less than Panarin's 11.642. And why should he? https://t.co/LW3ESeIxmB- BucciOT.Com (@Buccigross) January 9, 2023
For his part, Elliotte Friedman wouldn't be surprised if Pastrnak signed a contract extension with the Bruins at nearly $11 million.
Friedman at 32TP: "It wouldn't shock me if that when this is all over that David Pastrnak re-signs in Boston with something that is right around 8x11, but I think it's premature right now, I don't think it's anywhere near that."- NHL Watcher (@NHL_Watcher) January 3, 2023
The organization will have no choice but to match Pastrnak's demand if they don't want to lose him this summer.
