Casper Gillberg, the player who broke a referee's arm in a Swedish hockey game, has received his punishment for his actions and they did not hold back.
Gillberg Suspended For Over A Year For Breaking Referee's Arm
Recently Swedish defenseman Casper Gillberg went viral after breaking a referee's arm which was blatantly dirty.
Gillberg attempted to reason the hit by saying the following after the game:
"The referee gets in the way, as he did the whole game. I had to stop their player and then the referee got in the way. Then he had to take the hit even though it was not the intention, of course." - Casper Gillberg
Gillberg's reasoning clearly did not work as he was handed a 13-month ban from HockeyTrean which could put his professional hockey career in jeopardy.
"All in all, a unanimous committee finds that Casper Gillberg should be suspended for the following reasons: - Showed total indifference to the safety of the referee, when he chooses, with reckless force, to complete a hit against a referee even though he is aware that it is a referee he is hitting."
Now Gillberg may be forced to take his talents to a different league but it is likely that any international team that sees this tape will want to keep Gillberg as far away from them as possible.
