MAJOR: McDavid Disaster Gets Even Worse for the Edmonton Oilers
Bad Start in Edmonton.
The Oilers' season hasn't started the way they would have liked. Expectations from management, players, and fans are high.
Things took a turn for the worse when Connor McDavid was injured. He missed the ending minutes of the last game and the overtime period.
"Woodcroft on Mcdavid. «It appeared to be muscular... just to me as i watched during the play. we'll see. I'll have more information tomorrow."
He added he hasn't spoke to trainers yet.
A 1-3-1 start and potential McDavid injury. Couldn't imagine a worse start for the Oilers."
Edmonton announced that the captain would miss one to two weeks, including the Heritage Classic against the Flames next weekend.
"Connor McDavid suffered an upper body injury during last night's game vs. the Jets & is expected to be out of the #Oilers lineup for one to two weeks."
McDavid's Injury: A Nightmare for the Oilers
Losing McDavid is a true nightmare for the Oilers. Not only have they lost their best player and captain for a significant time, but the salary cap situation also complicates things further.
The organization is stifled by the salary cap, and McDavid won't be out long enough to be placed on the LTIR, where he'd need to miss at least 10 games before returning. This means that the Oilers can't move McDavid's salary and can't call up reinforcements from the AHL.
They currently carry 18 skaters and two goalies on their roster, the minimum in the NHL.
This leaves them with no other option for roster adjustments but to send a player down first to make room for another.
"With McDavid's non-LTIR injury, the Oilers are carrying the bare minimum 18 skaters and two goaltenders. They have no cap space to call up anyone from the minors."
We can only hope that McDavid recovers quickly to bring the Oilers back on the right path.
As seen on Hockey Feed - McDavid injury a salary cap disaster for the Oilers.
