Russia To Impose New Ban Restricting its Players from Playing in the NHL
Russian hockey players with NHL aspirations are facing a major setback with this new ruling announced by Vladimir Putin.
Russian Prospects Forced to Compete in the KHL Before Joining Other Leagues
According to a recent development, it looks like Russian players will be forced to spend a minimum number of years in the KHL before joining another hockey league.
Of note to NHL prospects with KHL clubs:
Shumi Babaev mentions via MatchTV:
"We have an order from the President, according to which young players should stay here - in Russia."
They have been working on rules to not allow players to go abroad before a set amount of time.
Any player looking to join the NHL will be affected by that new rule.
It's terrible news for the NHL, who have firmly opposed to banning players because of their nationality.
