Value of Two Maple Leafs Trade Assets Skyrockets After Day 1 of Free Agency

David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok's trade values shot up massively after the first day of free agency due to their incredibly cheap deals, where value is at a premium.
With the first day of free agency over, the Toronto Maple Leafs were
relatively quiet amidst a flurry of moves that saw tons of faces switch teams, but also leaving the Leafs a bit shorthanded in terms of potential targets.
A lot of teams spent money on adding role players for several years on lucrative contracts, and while they may pay off, it's a lot of money to commit, especially considering the roles some of the players are going to be expected to live up to.
David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok's value explode after Day 1
Which is why for the Maple Leafs, a team who has only a bit of cap space left, and more holes to fill than not, they have two huge assets they can dangle in a trade (considering the team is heading towards that direction).
Considering that David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok are both extremely cheap after receiving their July 1 bonuses, teams looking for cheap and reliable depth forwards should be knocking on Toronto's door, and they hold a bit of leverage.
For instance, we saw signings of guys like
Tanner Jeannot for five years at $17-million dollars with the Boston Bruins; that's six times the amount for Jarnkrok who will add about the same level of offense, with much better defense.
There were also defensemen signed for absurd deals, and arguably the worst deal of the entire day was
Cody Ceci's four-year, $18-million deal with Los Angeles; the money is flowing.
Toronto holds two valuable assets heading into Day 2
So for teams looking to add some much needed depth on the cheap, the Maple Leafs have exactly what they want.
Kampf, 30, is a defensive specialist who will be best suited on a fourth line but given the chance to kill penalties; something he's very good at. He had 13 points in 56 games this season with Toronto (5G, 8A) and has 143 points in 536 games with Chicago and Toronto.
Jarnkrok, 33, didn't play much this season with the Maple Leafs after recovering from sports hernia surgery but managed to skate in 19 games, scoring seven points (1G, 6A).
He'll be suited for a third or fourth line role, and if he can get his feet underneath him again, the solid two-way play, veteran leadership and underrated scoring potential will be enticing for a lot of teams; at league minimum too.
Though the Maple Leafs didn't make a big splash so far in free agency, it seems the trade market is where they will do their damage with a high probability we see Kampf and Jarnkrok elsewhere next year.
