Trade Talks Go Silent on Two Maple Leafs Forwards, Leaving Fans Confused and Frustrated

According to Anthony Di Marco of The Daily Faceoff, there has been no new developments regarding a Calle Janrkrok and David Kampf trade; and fans are getting anxious.
Although the Maple Leafs have
a very deep lineup compared to last season, where it seems that working by committee is the name of the game this year, and it'll take everyone from top to bottom in order to retain their Atlantic Division title.
However they have almost too many players now, and there's little room left for some of the older faces especially with the DNA changes Brad Treliving wanted to make.
Two casualties expected are David Kampf and
Calle Jarnkrok, and for the majority of the summer they have been involved in some heavy trade rumors.
The Report Behind the Silence; But Fans Are Staying Loud
But nothing has materialized as of yet, and as the season inches closer, Toronto needs to find a way to either give them a spot in the lineup somehow or search for some way to cut ties.
I have admittedly not heard anything regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs, but any addition would likely require GM Brad Treliving to move some money out the door.
Forwards Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf are top candidates (at least on paper) to be cleared out to shed salary, but there doesn't seem to have been any talks recently to potentially move either player.
We heard reports that Jarnkrok at the very least would entertain an offer elsewhere and it seems to be a matter of a market that is unwilling to pay even for a cheap veteran.
It makes Toronto's life way more difficult because while both men can offer something, they've essentially been replaced already; so doubling up really doesn't make sense.
Fans are getting a bit impatient with the team as well:
Do David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok Even Fit Anymore?
Dakota Joshua, Nic Roy,
Michael Pezzetta and even
Vinni Lettieri or
Travis Boyd can fill in, and in the case of the first two; are locks in the lineup. Roy takes over Jarnkrok's role as a two-way forward who can play anywhere, and is a solid penalty killer so there goes Kampf's role.
Plus with the team looking to add more aggressiveness, toughness, and physicality; adding a 33-year old off sports hernia surgery and a defensively sound but reserved forward to your lineup isn't a great way to do so.
It's not like the Maple Leafs are looking for a wildly enticing prospect or a premium draft pick; it's a cap dump only and the team is definitely okay with taking peanuts on the dollar in order to clear that space.
Kampf, 30, had 13 points in 59 games for the Leafs last season (5 goals, 8 assists) adding 14 PIM and a minus-1 rating in 12:24 TOI; over a minute less than last year.
Jarnkrok only skated in 19 games due to recovery from sports hernia surgery; he posted 7 points (1 goal, 6 assists), 4 PIM and a plus-1 in 13:14 TOI.
So for a team who is trying to get meaner, tougher, and grittier, the idea of keeping both men is a bit of a lost cause, and the sooner they can get rid of them the better.
That is...if they can in the first place.
