Leafs fans, prepare to get excited! The team has just announced which players will make up their training camp roster, another sign the season is almost here.

With 75 players vying for a spot in the line-up, Toronto Maple Leafs training camp is upon us. The Leafs got underway on Wednesday with media day and medical testing as the organization released the list of their hopefuls chasing an opening night line-up roster spot.

They'll hit the ice on Thursday, September 19, for the first session, with both new and old faces primed to show what they are made of.

Among those invited is Max Pacioretty, the 35-year-old veteran forward who has been put through two poor seasons by the Achilles injuries. Between Washington and Carolina, he was able to tally 23 points in 47 games last season. He's on a PTO, and the Leafs are banking on him being a strong contender for a roster spot. He'll wear number 67 at camp and is projected to be a top candidate to help shore up Toronto's depth at left wing.

Joining Pacioretty on a PTO is Florida Stanley Cup champion Steven Lorentz. After a decent season, scoring a goal and a pair of assists in 2023-24, Lorentz will look to make the lineup cut. The Kitchener native will wear number 18 and looks to bring Cup-winning experience to the Six.

With the Leafs needing left-wing depth, Max Pacioretty has the look of getting a roster spot pending no training camp issues. It's going to be an exciting few weeks as the team works through some lineup decisions, including whether William Nylander could start the season at center, potentially forming a formidable trio with Auston Matthews and John Tavares.

Beyond the veterans, the prospects who could break out are the ones fans should be keeping their eye on. Last year, one of the big surprises on the team was Fraser Minten, and right now, all eyes seem to be on Easton Cowan. At 19, Cowan will either be joining the Leafs or will head back out to the London Knights for one more year of development. Coming off a strong junior career, this could be the time for him to break into the NHL.

The preseason opens for the Leafs on Sunday, September 22, against the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Arena, and it's shaping up to be a pretty interesting preseason with some new faces, intriguing lineup possibilities, and loads of competition. Get ready Leafs fans!
