The Toronto Maple Leafs are nearing a deal to trade the UFA rights of Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights, according to multiple reports.

According to sources, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to finalize a sign and trade with Mitch Marner and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Both Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger report the Leafs are finalizing the trade, with Friedman reporting Nicolas Roy would be heading to Toronto in return.

The deal is waiting to be finalized, but would move Marner to Vegas as the team's number one option, ending a nine-year NHL career with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Marner had a career year with 75 assists and 102 points this season for the Leafs, along with 27 goals. Marner had two goals and 13 points in 13 games played for Toronto in the playoffs.

The 28-year-old was a first round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, fourth overall.

Marner made his debut in the 2016-17 NHL season alongside Auston Matthews, who would create a nearly decade long partnership. Marner was a 3x All-Star, and won gold for Canada at the Four Nations, getting the game-winning assist on a pass to Connor McDavid.

Nicolas Roy, 28, has had 15 goals and 31 points in 71 games this season for the Vegas Golden Knights.

Roy was a fourth round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2015 NHL Draft, 96th overall.

UPDATE: No trade call as of yet

Well, as much as the hoopla surrounding Marner excited everyone on Saturday, according to NHL Insider Darren Dreger; one of the key breakers of the initial trade proposal says there is no official trade as of yet.

No trade call, nothing signed. More work ahead in terms of the potential of Mitch Marner being traded to Vegas and what the return might be. I don't expect anything will get done tonight.

It seems that talks are still being ironed out, but as of now things are sitting in limbo in terms of Marner heading to Vegas.
