Top four defenseman reveals how he turned down the Toronto Maple Leafs
Last summer was a big off-season for the Maple Leafs: Brad Treliving was hired as the general manager. Many players, including Ryan O'Reilly, Luke Schenn, Justin Holl, Michael Bunting, Noel Acciari, and Alexander Kerfoot, left the team, among others. Auston Matthews signed his historic contract, while Max Domi, Ryan Reaves, Tyler Bertuzzi, and John Klingberg joined the team.
When Treliving came in, he wanted to bring on as much help as he could for the season. According to a new report, he was interested in a top defenseman, who rejected him to join the Arizona Coyotes.
Matt Dumba Reveals Why he Chose the Coyotes Instead of the Maple Leafs Last Summer
Matt Dumba was a free agent last summer and he signed a one-year deal with the Coyotes valued at 3 900 000 $.
Luke Fox from Sportsnet shared on X that the Leafs showed interest in him, but chose to play in Arizona.
He said that something incluenced his decision: he had bought a house in Arizona.
"Matt Dumba says, yes, the Toronto Maple Leafs were one of several teams that expressed interest in him during free agency.
That he already owned an investment home in Arizona played into his decision to sign with the Coyotes."
It's Not Too Late For Dumba to Join the Maple Leafs
We're almost at the deadline and the Leafs still need a top defenseman. They got Ilya Lyubushkin from the Ducks on Thursday night, but Matt Dumba could still be an interesting target for Brad Treliving.
If it doesn't happen at the deadline, it could be in the summer. Dumba definitely didn't close that door:
"I'm sure I'll be going through that again this summer."
