With the 60th pick in the NHL Draft, the Maple Leafs may have a steal as they drafted Kitchener's Alexander Bilecki to help give their blueline even more punch.
As Day 2 of the NHL Draft kicked off on Saturday, the Toronto Maple Leafs were sitting in a decent spot with them picking 60th overall, and also adding the 73rd and 76th overall picks from St. Louis in a trade involving Brandon Carlo.
They started off the draft with a pretty incredible pick in Gavin McKenna and there's bound to be a few more studs hidden in the various rounds that either get passed over or perhaps not scouted completely and teams are left a little bit in the dark.
Maple Leafs draft Bilecki 60th overall and bring in a Memorial Cup winner with a fearless attitude
If that was the case, then the Maple Leafs may have pulled out a steal already.
-
With the 60th pick of the draft, Toronto picked Mississauga native Alexander Bilecki, an offensive defender out of Kitchener who just won a Memorial Cup this past season.
Bilecki, 18, had 29 points in 66 games this past season with the Rangers, while adding 11 points in 18 playoff games. The 6-foot-2, 181-pound defender is someone who can attack off the rush, blow past defences and has an incredible knack for playmaking.

-
Steven Ellis, one of the top prospect analysts in the game, raved highly about Bilecki as the Maple Leafs made their choice:
Bilecki was a big reason why the Rangers went the distance in the OHL. The 6-foot-2 defender showed some decent offensive upside this year while showing a level of fearlessness that few defenders in the OHL displayed this year.
He boasts impressive mobility and creative playmaking instincts. It feels like he has some room to grow as a puck-mover, but many scouts think he's going to be a solid bottom-pairing defender.
-
Hey, if he can be a solid bottom-pairing or even bottom-four defender then that's a huge coup for the Maple Leafs especially knowing how badly they are going to need puck movement.
Also, he seems to bring that swagger and confidence that fans love, as he simply told the media that he's a winner, and bringing that mentality to his hometown team:
-
Also according to Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects, Bilecki had a few friends in attendance who absolutely went nuts when they realized he was headed to the Maple Leafs:
-
Bilecki was ranked as high as 35th per McKeen's Hockey, with his range from the mid-40s all the way until the 92nd pick. It could have been anyone who chose him, but the Maple Leafs are going to reap the benefits.
Do you think Alexander Bilecki will be a top-four defender for the Maple Leafs?
