With the addition of Matias Maccelli and the news they are still looking for a top-six forward, Max Domi's time with the Maple Leafs may be coming to an end soon.

While it wasn't the ideal trade for fans, who were clearly expecting a huge splash, Brad Treliving still added a very interesting young piece in Matias Maccelli, who is barely scratching the surface of his prime, and with the right pieces, could surprise a lot of people.
It also helps he had the iconic Shane Doan vouching for him and essentially swaying Treliving to acquire him (on the cheap too), and if his first media call is any indication, he's ready to do work and help replace Mitch Marner.

Max Domi on the chopping block thanks to Toronto's new direction

But there are also reports they want to add another top-six forward and with the acquisition of Nicolas Roy in the Mitch Marner deal, the Maple Leafs seem to have their center position figured out.
That leaves minimal room for Max Domi, especially if the team is looking to keep guys like Nick Robertson and Bobby McMann, and with Domi's fairly expensive contract compared to both men; he could be on the move.
With a bargain deal at just over $2-million, Domi would be an attractive bottom-six option for a contending team, and with the Maple Leafs going through a transition, they may have seen all they need to from Domi the past two seasons.

Why Max Domi needs to be traded from the Maple Leafs

A streaky offensive player, Domi is often criticized for his lack of defense, and with Craig Berube's insistence on fighting for every puck, playing hard and not giving into opposition's antics; he seems like an outlier with the current roster.
Plus, he is 30, and compared to names like McMann and Robertson, the latter being considerably younger, Domi is expendable. He already had his bonus paid out, he's fairly cheap and is a veteran; so his experience is a vital asset.
In his two seasons with Toronto, Domi has 80 points in 154 games (17G, 63).
But for the Maple Leafs, who are already stacked with tons of leadership and veteran talent, the need for them now is finding that impact player who can help Maccelli, Roy, and the rest of the Maple Leafs find the same success sans Marner.
In that case, that means Domi is a likely casualty. It's not personal, just business.
