Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has sent a strong message to Florida Panthers fans, and it's a message that will also resonate in Toronto.
Sergei Bobrovsky won two Stanley Cups with the Florida Panthers, and there is a lot of history there. As Hockey Patrol has previously reported, the goaltender didn't sign with the Panthers because they wouldn't offer him a full no-movement clause. The Leafs, however, were willing to make it happen.
Despite this disagreement, there is clearly no bad blood between Bobrovsky and the Panthers. That became clear on Saturday when he addressed the organization and its supporters.
Bobrovsky sends a message to Panthers fans
In his message to the fans, Bobrovsky revealed that he had numerous beautiful moments in Florida. He thanked Florida for the support, then said that his "new phase" is something he is incredibly hopeful about.
Two cups behind us, so many beautiful moments in Florida and most importantly the love and support of the fans. May this new phase bring even more victories, bright moments and people who will love and support you as genuinely. Thank you for everything, Florida. And may there be many more great victories ahead!
Of course, that "new phase" is playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who have given Bobrovsky a three-year deal worth $21 million.
Can Bobrovsky have a big season with the Leafs?
After winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Florida Panthers, Bobrovsky had a down year in 2025-26. He only managed a goals-against average of 3.07 and a save percentage of .877.
These numbers are not exactly positive, especially if you are a Leafs fan with a vested interest in this team. However, one bad season does not mean Bobrovsky is destined for another one.
The Panthers were struck by injuries last season, and a depleted roster certainly led to less overall success. It's a similar reason why Anthony Stolarz saw his numbers dip with the Leafs last season.
There are no guarantees when it comes to Bobrovsky, but his latest comments prove he is motivated, and that can only be a good thing for this team.
Do you believe Sergei Borbrovsky was the right pickup for the Toronto Maple Leafs?
