Senators Plan to Keep Leafs Fans Out of Their Arena Exposed
The Ottawa Senators are trying some very sneaky tactics to make sure the Canadian Tire Centre is full of hometown fans.
If things weren't already going to be
be heated enough between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs during the first round, they'll certainly get scorching hot soon.
With the Senators already trying to make life miserable for Leafs fans who want to catch a glimpse of Games Three and Four, it seems like they have a system in place to not only make things hard, but downright impossible.
According to The Athletic, Ottawa is looking to go to great lengths to prevent Maple Leafs faithful from giving the hometown team headaches.
The plan goes as follows:
They've launched a multi-step ticket strategy designed to keep home-ice advantage in Ottawa's favour.
It started with season-ticket holders getting first access to their seats at a discount, along with the option to buy two extra seats for the full playoff run.
Earlier this week, a third wave of sales allowed them to buy up to four more single-game tickets for friends and family-under one key condition: those tickets can't be transferred. That means no resale, no StubHub, and fewer chances for Leafs fans to get in.
One fan put it simply: «I refuse to normalize selling playoff tickets to Leafs fans. This is the one time fandom should come above all. There are plenty of Sens fans willing to pay above face-no excuse not to make the effort.»
«We got a discount and first access for a reason,» one said. «The team wants us in the building. This isn't the time to cash out-it's the time to show up.»
It's clear the Sens management and fans are both trying to find ways to stifle the passionate Leafs fans who will no doubt be in attendance.
Though, it still really doesn't solve the problem of Maple Leafs fans who live in Ottawa or who have friends or family that cheer for the opposite side.
It's a positive to see that the team is taking a stance on resell tickets, as not only is it a problem with Ottawa vs. Toronto, but it's a problem that plagues all of professional sports.
But it's still a bit disheartening that the Maple Leafs are trying to be pushed out of attending. What makes the Battle of Ontario so special is the atmosphere and you need Leafs and Sens fans in order to do that.
But with this latest plan ready to be implemented to the Nth degree, there's one thing to say to that:
