Analyzing The Toronto Maple Leafs vs Ottawa Senators First Round Playoff Matchup
Toronto and Ottawa matched up in the playoffs four times between 2000-2004, with the Leafs winning all four series.
This season, Ottawa won all three matches against Toronto, including a 4-2 win back in March.
The Leafs are most likely to rely on goaltender
Anthony Stolarz in the playoffs.
Stolarz, 31, who won the Stanley Cup last season as a backup to
Sergei Bobrovsky in Florida, has a 21-8-3 record in 34 games played, along with a 2.14GAA and a .926sv%.
Likely to be the starter for Ottawa is
Linus Ullmark. The 31-year-old has been impactful for the Senators in his first season with the team.
Ullmark has a 24-14-3 record in 43 games played for Ottawa, with a 2.67GAA and a .911sv% on the season.
The Ottawa Senators are fourth in the Atlantic Division with a 44-30-7 record with 95 points, having a 7-2-1 record in their last 10 games.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, winners of the Atlantic Division, have a 51-26-4 record and 106 points, 8-1-1 in their last 10 games played.
The Leafs last year lost in seven games to the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs.
Toronto will be relying on the championship winning experience of Stolarz in net, as well as fellow Panthers teammates who lifted the Stanley Cup in Oliver Ekman-Larsson and
Steven Lorentz.
For the Senators, this is the team's first playoff series since 2017, where they made the Eastern Conference finals, losing to the eventual cup champions, Pittsburgh.
No players remain from that last Ottawa team.
Thomas Chabot, who played one game that season, did not appear in the playoffs.
