Reports that Mitch Marner and his wife have been looking at homes in Vegas have fuelled speculation that the Golden Knights are going to sign him this summer.
He's only got about a week until he can start to decide where he wants to go and there's a lot of anticipation around his final decision.
Or maybe he's already made up his mind.
Mitch Marner and wife seen house-shopping in Vegas
A new report shows that perhaps Marner is already dead set on signing in Sin City, as he was seen with his wife apparently checking out some potential housing situations; a huge indicator of where he might be potentially going.
While it's well within his rights to go everywhere across the continent to find a new place to live, it's very odd to see a player who just started a new family be so keen to look at things in person, especially knowing it'll fuel rumors.
Obviously nothing is confirmed, and we won't know until next week, but the fact that Marner is house-shopping isn't a good sign for the Maple Leafs; and they are hoping that Marner at least gives them a chance to recoup some asset before he leaves.
Will Mitch Marner help Toronto on his way out?
A sign-and-trade is highly unlikely at this juncture, and he more than likely would have already had a deal in place if that was the case. Plus, with him being so hot and cold regarding what type of deal he wants, it's hard to expect him to play ball with Toronto especially given their relationship.
He's already declined several trades previously, incdlung one for
Mikko Rantanen at the trade deadline, determined by hell or high-water to be the one who helped Toronto find glory, and came up short yet again.
It wasn't for a lack of effort, at least in the regular season.
Marner put up 102 points in 81 games for the Maple Leafs (27G, 75A) finally hitting the century mark, and being a huge reason why the team won the Atlantic Division.
However it was much of the same in the playoffs and his inability to show up in Games 5, 6 and 7 is just a broken record at this point for the Maple Leafs; and any team that signs him is going to seriously hope it was just the media pressure that kept him from performing.
It doesn't look like Marner will end up helping Toronto out by any means, and his disrespectful treatment of a team that gave him everything shows that money might be the only thing on his mind.
