A new report reveals Peter DeBoer contacted Craig Berube personally about rumours he could replace as the Toronto Maple Leafs head coach.

Reporting from Elliotte Friedman revealed that Peter DeBoer, a name linked as a potential replacement to Craig Berube as Leafs head coach, connected with Berube in regards to the links.
DeBoer is one name that has been linked in recent reports from insider as a strong contender to potentially take the Leafs job if Craig Berube is let go by Toronto.
Friedman reported during 'Saturday Headlines' that DeBoer sent a message via a third party denying any sort of idea that he has interest in taking Berube's job.

What Peter DeBoer told Craig Berube on the Leafs job rumors

As Elliotte Friedman outlined, DeBoer told Berube directly that any rumors of him taking the Leafs job were not only something he was active in, but that the rumors were untrue.
So, earlier this week, Craig Berube was given a vote of confidence by GM Brad Treliving and the organization, Treliving was too.

But one other thing that happened this week, I thought, was pretty interesting, was that Peter DeBoer, who was the subject of much speculation to potentially replace Craig Berube is the Maple Leafs head coach sent a note through a friend to Berube saying, "forget all this noise. I'm not involved here, and it's not happening."

I found out about it today.

I sent a note to DeBoer about it, and all he said was, "I've been on the other end of that I didn't like the fact that I was on this side of it this time", so he sent it through an intermediary to Berube, basing any rumors about him were not true.

A recent report from insider David Pagnotta earlier this week indicated that DeBoer was more interested in joining a team closer to contention than Toronto if he were to make a return to coaching.
DeBoer last coached with Dallas until being dismissed at the end of last season. DeBoer, an experienced playoff coach who sits seventh in postseason games coached, appears focused on joining a team that would give him his first Stanley Cup.
The Leafs have maintained that Craig Berube is their guy, and Peter DeBoer has stated that he's not after his job, making clear for now that the head coaching role for Toronto remains Craig Berube's for the time being.
