MLSE President Keith Pelley shuts down a reporter's question on the Toronto Maple Leafs future as questions surrounding the team's trade deadline plans continue to dominate headlines.

Keith Pelley chose to step aside a question asked by Joshua Kloke of 'The Athletic', who covers both the Leafs and Canadian soccer, on the Maple Leafs' next step following a recent letter Pelley wrote to Leafs season ticket holders on the team's current status.
We're here to talk about TFC today and welcome Josh Sargent to Toronto. There will be a time that I will address the media on the Leafs, but today is not that day.
Pelley, the President of Toronto's parent company, Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment, was on hand for MLS soccer club Toronto FC in announcing the signing of new acquisition Josh Sargent.
Sargent, who arrived from British second division side Norwich, joined after weeks of tense negotations between the two clubs, agreeing a potential MLS record breaking transfer at $27M.

Toronto Maple Leafs lack of attention from Keith Pelley brings new light to deadline plans

Despite the soccer focus for a major high value signing, a reporter asked Pelley about his late February message to Leafs season ticket holders, asking for specifics on what ownership feels needs to be done, something Pelley decided not to answer on, wanting the focus on the signing of Sargent and TFC.
Pelley electing to ignore the question and press forward make sense from a business standpoint, as the focus was on the signing of Sargent, however it echoes the seemingly tone-deaf attitude the team has taken regarding the deadline.
Names like Bobby McMann, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Scott Laughton were all held out of the lineup in the hopes of keeping them healthy ahead of a trade, and if Pelley is truly going to do 'whatever is necessary' then his actions should answer any potential questions.
Where Toronto FC focus on buying, Pelley says he will speak on the Leafs situation, and what is looking like a potentially monumental next 48 hours that could change Toronto's long-term future, surely much will be said from Leafs ownership in the coming days.
If not, then they are going to have a lot of talking to do come this summer.
