Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner took the time to comment on the potential of playing his final game with Toronto after being eliminated in Game 7.

It was certainly not the way that Mitch Marner wanted to potentially end his Maple Leafs career, but it is fitting.
Another disappointing playoff series loss in a Game 7 with yet another absent performance led the star forward to contemplate his future going forward.
Toronto needs to also contemplate whether or not they want to keep him too. Yes, he is one of the league's best players but his consistent playoff failures might be a factor in Brad Treliving moving on and finding other pieces to help win instead.

Mitch Marner Comments On Potential (Likely) Final Game With Toronto

Marner is well aware of this, and his words to the media after the Game 7 loss didn't really give any fans hope that he would stick around, and he was dealing with some pretty heavy emotions:
I don't have any thoughts right now. Pretty devastated with what just happened.
It's understandable that Marner would be feeling so down after Toronto made a triumphant comeback in Game 6 to push it to a seventh tilt.
But fans are also rightly calling him out for another miserable performance in the clutch, and for his typical response which leaves everyone wondering what exactly is going on.
One particular fan laid it out as plain as day for Marner too.
You cant argue that Marner wasn't successful in the playoffs; he had 13 points in 13 games (2G, 11A) but it was his lack of production in Games 5 and 7 that really made fans furious.
Zero points, only three shots, a minus-4 rating. He had only four points the entire series, and did most of his heavy lifting against Ottawa; a series the team should have won much more easily too having a 3-0 series lead at one point.
Is that worth a potential $14-15M per season stipend? It would certainly keep the Core 4 around, however why would you?
As much as they've had regular seasons success, their playoff record leaves a lot to be desired and a serious change should be put forward.
That change doesn't include Marner unfortunately, and while he will no doubt be etched in Maple Leafs history as one of the franchise's greatest players, it seems he's coming to terms with it being his last season:
It's meant everything.

You know, maybe a risky pick on a small kid from Toronto, and I've been forever grateful to wear this Maple Leaf and be a part of this; with some of the great legends here and to wear this jersey.

I've never taken a day for granted and have always, always loved it.
