Max Domi Addresses His Costly Outburst During Game 4 vs. Senators
Max Domi ended up receiving a costly penalty after losing his temper, and with Toronto needing him to act like a veteran, he explained his actions ahead of Game 5.
With the Maple Leafs heading back home for Game 5 of the first round, the team is looking to take down their provincial rivals and firmly solidify themselves not only into the second round, but
performers who can come through when it matters the most.
They gotta learn how to win in regulation however, and three straight OT games isn't going to make things easier for a team looking to make a Finals run. But it was something that happened much, much earlier that caused a bit of a stir.
When Max Domi ended up taking a face-off, he ended up butt-ending Ottawa's
Shane Pinto in the face, receiving a four-minute double minor for his troubles, leading to Ottawa opening the scoring.
It was a fairly dumb play, and Domi let his emotions get the better of him, and could be a big factor into his placement in the lineup; Toronto can't afford to have him acting reckless. Which is why he tried his best to explain his actions ahead of Game 5:
It's obviously unfortunate. Sometimes when you're battling, you just react and throw your arm out a little. I didn't mean to hit him in the face - sometimes things like that just happen.
It's admirable that Domi is trying to defend himself but anyone can see it was a pretty blatant shot. While it was not as egregious as
Artem Zub's headshot on
John Tavares, it was still something that caused some issues, not only with the Senators but
with Domi's head coach.Max Domi Needs To Pick Things Up Or Sit Out
The hero in Game 2,
Domi has been otherwise fairly quiet this series, and with guys like
David Kampf and Nick Robertson waiting in the wings for their chance, he could be the odd man out, especially if he keeps taking these types of penalties.
He has one goal, seven hits and a minus-1 rating in the first four games of the series, and has been arguably part of the team's worst line with
Bobby McMann and Robertson/
Max Pacioretty; they all need to step it up, and step it up quick.
If he doesn't, then unfortunately he's going to need to probably sit out to not only gather himself, but give Toronto a bit more of a leg up; he's a detriment to the team if he can't play defense and act so undisciplined.
So it's time Max, you were already the hero once; but you need to start doing it a lot earlier than OT.
